Montana - Home to the “Rich and Famous”

Montana is the kind of place that attracts people from all over the world. Well, why wouldn’t it? With its magnificent mountains, rivers and forests offering solitude, as well as outstanding hiking/climbing, world-class fly fishing, hunting and camping opportunities to its small Western towns with unique shops, fine dining, and cultural events, Montana is hard to beat. No wonder many of the “Rich and Famous” (born here, or not) are drawn to Montana.
BORN IN MONTANA
Montana is the birthplace of many award-winning actors, Olympic athletes, and other famous people; did you know that these people were born here?
Born in Missoula, Montana, Tommy Moe became the first American skier to win two medals in one year at the 1994 Winter Games.
Dana Carvey was born in Missoula, Montana. He is an Emmy Award winning actor/comedian who began his hollywood career as a cast member on Saturday Night Live.
Loren Wilbur Acton was born in Lewistown, Montana. A solar physicist, as well as an astronaut, Acton flew on the Space Shuttle Challenger.
Born in Helena, Montana, Gary Cooper’s movie career spanned from silent films of the 1920’s into the 1950’s.
Michelle Williams was born in Kalispell, Montana. Her acting career began after landing a major role on the hit teen show Dawson’s Creek. In 2005, she appeared in the film Brokeback Mountain.
TRANSPLANT TO MONTANA
Although not born here, many actors, musicians and influential figures have found their way to Montana.
Robert Edward “Ted” Turner III purchased his first Southwest Montana property, the Bar None Ranch, in 1987.
Michael John Douglas, better known by his stage name Michael Keaton, owns a ranch near Livingston, Montana.
In 2012, John Mayer purchased a home in Paradise Valley, situated between Bozeman, Montana and the Gardiner entrance to Yellowstone Park.
Tom Brokaw purchased the West Boulder Ranch outside of Livingston, Montana in 1989.
Jeffrey Leon "Jeff" Bridges is a property-owner in rustic Park County in Montana.
David Michael Letterman has owned a home outside of Choteau, Montana since 1999.
Thomas Francis McGuane III lives just outside of Livingston, Montana.
Hugh Anthony Cregg III owns a ranch outside Stevensville, Montana. He is the lead singer for his band Huey Lewis and the News.
William "Gatz" Hjortsberg resides in Livingston, Montana.
Native Montanans already know the allure of Montana; they grew up here. Most newcomers share a similar story; they came here for vacation or business, fell in love with the lifestyle, and found their way back. They now call Montana home.
